In 1990, I made a surprise visit to my daughter Gloria’s home in Gallatin, Tennessee. This was three years before I decided to go undercover in 1993. My attempt to visit her was frustrated by both her husband and Gloria’s own reluctance to see me – because of her cult programming.

I decided to share my story and expose the Watchtower’s shunning policy. I contacted Kitty Kulakowski, a reporter for the Sumner County, Tennessee News Examiner. She was surprised and upset to learn that Jehovah’s Witnesses actually broke up families because of their disfellowshipping and shunning practices. She wrote a story based on the information I provided her. She and her editor were so kind and understanding as I shared my experiences with them.

Leaving a cult is not easy. There is a period of adjustment that can be difficult to get through. You might compare it to being a newborn baby. Your slate is clean and your life is starting anew. This is a phase that you must endure to eventually regain your mentally well-being.

It’s like watching things grow, like plants and trees. If you look at them every day you won’t notice the growth. But look again in six months, a year, or even several years, and you’ll notice big changes.

The mental and psychological fog created by a cult takes a while to lift and for your thought processes to fully clear. Understanding that this will take a while is important – for yourself – and for others.

It’s important that we try to understand this phenomena and show a great deal of compassion and patience for ex-cult members. It will take time, but healing and mental clarity will come.

Lots of love and empathy is what is needed. That’s what allowed my family to eventually heal from all the damage that we suffered from the cult of Jehovah’s Witnesses and its unchristian shunning policy.

I will be writing more articles in the next few weeks to announce any interviews or presentations that I have scheduled.

My book tells the story of my life as a member of a cult. My family and I, except for our oldest daughter Gloria, resigned in 1983. The Watchtower Society’s shunning policy took effect immediately, and we lost all communication with her for 10 years.

In order to help my daughter escape I had to rejoin and live the cult life once again. It was a time of stress and fear, but I was determined to get my family out once and for all – no matter what it required of me.

If you want to purchase my book, feel free to email me at nancyjsage@hotmail.com or click here: www.Amazon.com/Going-Undercover-Rescue-My-Daughter.

I’ve received such great support and feedback ever since my book was released. I’d love to hear your comments.

Be sure to check back often!
